STATE OF OHIO v. L.B.: All Charges Dismissed in Columbus Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Drug Paraphernalia Case

All Charges Dismissed

A successful young Columbus businessman recently charged with Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia received a complete dismissal of all charges yesterday, Monday, December 8, 2014.

The story about how the dismissal occurred is interesting because (1) it was critically important for the man’s business career, and (2) it shows how the hard work of a young attorney can pay off by achieving the best possible result in a criminal case – a complete dismissal of all charges.

Pretrial Motions

In this case, after thoroughly reviewing pretrial discovery investigative reports, witness statements, and cruiser videos, Columbus attorney Todd A. Long worked diligently to draft pre-trial motions to (1) suppress statements, and (2) suppress the fruits of an unlawful search and seizure.  He also crafted a creative speedy trial motion that he held in hand until the day of trial.

Courtroom Results

The result is that the Court dismissed all charges, and the client is now eligible to apply to seal expunge the filing of criminal charges and all records associated with his prosecution.

This is the story of a good person accused of being on the wrong side of the law.  Most attorneys he could have hired would have simply gone to court and focused on obtaining a reduced sentence.  In this case, the client was smart enough to hire a Law Firm with lawyers focused on dismissing charges, on winning criminal cases entirely, so their clients can work on their careers without having to explain away a serious criminal conviction.  It’s also story about what is required for a criminal defense lawyer to achieve Courtroom Victories.

Todd’s hard work has not only been recognized by his clients, but also his peers.  He was recently designated a “Rising Star” in the field of Criminal Defense by Ohio Super Lawyers, a rating service of lawyers attaining a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
